Virgo Sun
Virgo is associated with the Sixth
House and it is the last stage of personal development before we pull open
the curtains to the world (symbolized by houses 7 through 12 where the
individual engages in relationships and group life).
Virgo energy expresses itself
through work and service. It
teaches us that we each have a job to do.
We have a part to play and a contribution to make which will be
expressed in practical ways through service, healing, and methods of self
improvement. Virgo helps us understand and give a
deeper meaning to work; that work is not just a job that allows us to pay
our bills and justify existence.
The gift is to embrace the concept of service: that which serves the
individual life purpose as it is what we came here to do.
It is the unique contribution that only that particular person can
make. In the process of making
our service contribution, we fulfill ourselves and we fulfill critical
needs of the collective. Though Virgo's limited definition is
our job, work environment, health and service, we have to extend the
definition to include the nature of the physical body and its interface
with the mind and the emotions. An
earth sign but the planet which rules it (Mercury) is associated with the
mind. Virgo must master the
mind to master the body.
Virgo teaches us that the careful
and methodical ordering of our external environment is necessary for a
clear and unconfused inner environment.
Since we live in a culture that has an external orientation with
preoccupation of events and activities it has led us to overlook the
importance of our inner reality as the creator of our outer reality.
Purposeful discipline and meaningful routine in our daily lives
fosters inner alignment and a peaceful state of mind. Mercury's ruler ship of Virgo
explains the discriminating intellect and ability to analyze details making
them great organizers. The
ability to synthesize the mind/body connection make them great healers,
physicians or surgeons. Virgo
offers us the technology to transmit healing to others and to the Earth
through techniques that cleanse, balance and cultivate our life force.
Some Virgos can be obsessed with
being healthy, sometimes becoming a hypochondriac and using frequent
illnesses to get attention. An
internal imbalance may cause them to go from one doctor to another looking
for a physical cause. An
extraordinary emphasis on order and routine is fed by a fear of the unknown
and fear of change; attempting to substitute outer order for inner
alignment by always making adjustments in their external environment.
Senseless routines and boredom are wake up calls to remind them that
they are capable of better things and the key out of their own prison is
within themselves. Virgo realizes that their challenges are not external
but internal. By investigating
how the psyche impacts their body they now learn from their mistakes rather
than being overwhelmed by them. No
longer is misplaced compassion leading to depression, anxiety, and/or a
sense of helplessness. Now
they learn to differentiate between what is necessary and what is useless
clutter after having had enough of unexplained illness, depression and
employment frustrations. They
no longer feel overburdened by others pain because they are too responsive
to the needs of others. Mental
and physical discrimination has been learned.
The attitude shift helps them reclaim their power and give them the
ability to handle whatever happens with inner strength. Virgo finally
reaches the stage where they have succeeded in blending the mental,
emotional and physical and integrated them into a coherent sense of Self
who serve with true humility. Now
in balance and functioning optimally, they not only know what they are
supposed to do, they have the energy, health and the motivation to do it. Life is lived as a devotion to humankind; situations are
now attracted where they can best serve with their caring and nurturance ~
a reflection of their very
being. While the Sun is shining
through Virgo it gives us a chance to incorporate the practical and
discriminating qualities of this Earth sign into our being. As we do so we
realize that everything co-exists together and co-creation is constantly
taking
place between our inner and outer
realities. Each one influences the other. Our challenge is to maintain a
balance between the two so that they are able to positively impact and
support each other. Then we can work as conscious co-creators in harmony
and balance with all of life. As we make inner and outer progress we
realize that they are not only mutually supportive, they are the same
thing, just different manifestation of the Divine. Sun travels through
the Virgo sky between August 22 and September 22nd.
