Taurus Sun
When the Sun was in Aries the challenge was to develop a strong sense of one's own identity. With the Sun in Taurus the challenge is for our security, safety and sensual gratification. Taurus helps us get in touch with the simple joy of being alive and the pleasure that we can experience in our bodies. Taurus reminds us that the human body is designed for the enjoyment of our experiences through the senses: smell, sight, touch, sound and taste while honouring the human vehicle as a Divine expression and a gift from the Earth. As the first earth sign Taurus is known as the slowest and the most inflexible sign of the zodiac. Taurus is concerned with the physical, the practical, the tangible and is traditionally associated with the acquisition of possessions, the capacity and need to earn a livelihood and the desire and need to organize the physical resources of the Earth to create beauty and personal resources to create security. A deeper meaning of Taurus relates to the desire nature of the human being. What we desire and attract depends upon what we believe we deserve and how much we value ourselves. Taurus's path is to direct the desire nature toward the achievement of the values that lead one to an experience of true security and contentment. Our human desire nature is driven to possess things outside ourselves which is assisted by our consumer oriented society and by the religions that teach us that God is outside ourselves. However we also soon realize that everything outside ourselves changes and is beyond our control. Our physical possessions, our money, our status, our relationships can be taken away, lost, destroyed, and/or devalued. Therefore, the true basic motivation in Taurus is an inner, instinctual need which has little to do with tangible objects or physical situations. We eventually realize that the only permanent possession we have are the qualities we find within our self. Events may occur that appear as good luck and misfortunes that seem like bad luck but our energy field is connected to nature and natural forces. Therefore what Taurus truly seeks in each of us is an inner quality or state of being. The challenge for Taurus is to use the desire energy for spiritual aspiration; to liberate ourselves and other human beings from the attachment to matter. The Taurus earth energy grounds us and gives us all a chance to slow down. Actually, maybe even slowing down to the point that stopping would be a great start! It allows us to be silent so we can intuitively tune into our universal energies. By slowing down we can get in touch with our true values and what we really want. More than any other sign, Taurus's sense of self-worth rises and falls according to its ability to provide a secure financial environment for themselves and their families. Taurus can have such a fear of poverty that even after accumulating wealth they often cannot enjoy what they have. Earth-bound Taurus is controlled by the magnetism of matter. There is a stubborn determination to 'acquire' and no amount is enough to feel secure because the shift has not been made from a dependency on external values to a reliance on inner values. Taurus needs to access the hidden resources in their psyche and not depend on the physical world for their inner security. When they find their own personal values and align them with their inner core they are now freed from the bondage and insecurities caused by physical attachments. Their security is born from self-worth, self-reliance and their own talents. Once liberated the attachment to money and possessions is no longer an issue. They have passed some of the most difficult human tests of our society. Taurus now realizes that having money can be good thing, but it is not the only way to have value. Values can be found in loving and understanding relationships, cooperation at work, a stable home environment, etc. Contributing to community service to create a more just equitable society to assist everyone and everything that they come in contact with can have great value. Connecting to a spiritual source can increase self-worth as well. During the time the sun is in Taurus we are offered an opportunity to analyze our relationship between money and self-worth. Money, though important for survival and to provide for oneself does not by itself create a sense of self-worth. One only needs to look around to verify that there are plenty of extremely wealthy people who are miserable and insecure. If you don't already feel good about yourself no amount of money will make you feel better.
