Pisces Sun

written by Shirley Eftoda

The Sun enters Pisces on February 18th.  This begins an opportune time to cultivate our connection with the Divine as well as to enter into an inner stillness to seek information or guidance in making a decision.   The Pisces New Moon is an excellent day to merge and surrender to the Universe.

We have now approached the 12th sign which is the end of the cycle.  As with all endings it simply means a new beginning will follow.  A new beginning that will prepare for a new birth of Self in Aries.  It is a time to forget, forgive and let go of the past.  It is a time to die so we can be reborn.  Circumstances occur so we can let go.  We can either choose to change or we can be prodded to do so.  There is a gathering of all that has been experienced and learned during the course of the cycle of the previous eleven signs and this is now expressing itself through the Pisces energy.

Pisces is a water sign.  Mastering our emotions comes through the water signs.  Pisces instinctual urge is expressed through the emotions.  In Cancer we learn how to contain our emotional energy and create a safe inner home.  In Scorpio we learn to confront our hidden demons.  In Pisces we learn how to fulfill our emotional desires by finding unity within ourselves.  Consciously connecting to the Divine within is the life lesson for Pisces and becoming aware of that Divine identity.  In Pisces we learn to submit to a force larger and greater than ourselves.

The territory is non-material reality and the journey is to bring oneself into a deep relationship with the unseen and the unknown.  One is subjected to the ethereal energies that dissolve and bring one inward and upward into non-physical realities.

Piscean energy is of psychic sensitivity and empathy.  The awareness is that there is more to life than meets the eye.  Barriers and boundaries are not as separative; one can 'feel' the unseen energies.  The energy teaches us that life is more than purely physical.  One knows that they have been here before in this life or another so the ability to feel suffering is strong allowing empathy rather than judgment (even of those that cause us suffering).  Pisces wants to serve and help others through their time of struggle through the understanding of others pain and suffering.  The goal is to accomplish this without letting it over-shadow them by they themselves becoming immersed in the pain.

The main theme of all signs is to merge the personality with the Soul.  Pisces teaches that when the lower self is sacrificed (even through death) that the Soul still lives.  The Soul makes a sacrifice when it enters a physical body.  It is imprisoned and no longer free to completely experience its basic free nature. Therefore, the Pisces mentality carries this sacrificial theme and is the motivating drive in the tendency to martyrdom.

Pisces can often become victims of self-induced acts of personal sabotage.  Some may try to escape the burdens of physical life through the use of drugs, other addictive substances and personal habits.  They may allow mental and emotional trash to gather in their psyche through denial and fantasies.  A fearful state of mind can lead to paranoia.  Here we see how the power of the unconscious which creates our reality and if not acknowledged undermines our conscious intentions.  It becomes the source of undoing which attracts all sorts of conditions of helplessness, bondage, isolation and incarceration.  In a confused and deluded state of mind outside forces are blamed for problems and circumstances.

Pisces is often a victim of their own sensitivity because they are unable to discriminate between themselves and the energies in their environment as their personal boundaries are not established.  Many may sacrifice their own development and material ambitions for others out of a sense of guilt, obligation or an instinctual urge to pay off a debt or karma while interpreting self-sacrifice as an excuse to hide their fear of confronting life.  Behind the sacrifice lies a feeling of powerlessness and an inability to handle practical day to day affairs.  In the worst cases becoming self-destruction and self-annihilation. Undefined guilt and fear pervade the psyche of unconscious Pisces.

In the absence of techniques to handle emotions and a relevant spiritual path to channel energy and to point one in the right direction, Pisces chooses routes that lead to trouble and self-destruction.  Addictions are often Pisces escape route.  They may also simply choose to isolate themselves while getting lost in the fantasies of their mind or be uncontrollably attached to her illusions.   Regardless of the escape route the feeling of separation from humanity, from themselves and the Divine persists as within lies the undeniable attraction to the inner realms.

Anguish and pain at the feeling level prods Pisces to seek a counselor, a therapist, a teacher and a spiritual path that will help make sense of their own feeling nature.  Personal soul-searching and the healing of inner wounds are required before life can be devoted to the dream of merging into the One.  Self reflection and a deeper knowledge of the spiritual Self will allow them to be alone without feeling lonely.

Pisces must learn to swim without getting lost rather than flowing upstream and downstream unable to decide which stream will lead to their destination.  Pisces then learns to go with the current that best serve their interests within their potential.

The 'wake up' call may come in the form of loss of personal power, hospital trips, addictions or time in literal and symbolic prisons.  When their own powerlessness is realized they know they are nothing  without a link to the rest of life.  Therefore through a path of service and the surrendering of individual will to Divine Will Pisces finds the security and connection that it seeks.  The connection to the Source is found giving unlimited support of inner and outer resources upon which to draw - learning to blend the real and the ideal, fantasy and reality, and the instinctive and the intuitive.  Then through discrimination becoming more grounded to themselves, others and the environment.  (Each sign has a complementary sign which helps it achieve wholeness.  Pisces needs the grounding energy of Virgo and its powers of discrimination and objectivity to transform the lower self into the higher Self in a healthy, balanced manner).

Other Pisces realize that they cannot hide anymore and they no longer want to.  What was once a threat is now relief.  Through intuition they are now able to consciously and appropriately choose self-sacrifice and devote their life to universal service without getting lost, abused or hurt in the process.  The confidence that they are being lead in the right direction is real.  Through connection with the Source blind faith becomes willing trust.  Greater powers are at work than the complicated intrigues of the mind.  The journey now is innately spiritual.  The territory is the Soul and the Divine.  The goal is to have a direct experience of God.  Learning to rely and trust the unknown, the door to freedom is opened through inner contemplation.  Since the end and the beginning of initiation come from within the end is the dissolution of the consciously constructed personality as a separate identity; the beginning is the rebirth into universal consciousness.

Pisces embodies the last phase in the human journey.  Dwelling in the Universal Mind, not the rational mind, Pisces lets us know that we are already home.  Pisces teaches us that beyond physical survival, the most compelling instinct of the human psyche is the spiritual quest to return to a conscious connection with our Source.  Divine Timing is in charge.  Pisces alerts us to listen for the knock, but not to sit around and try to influence when the knock will come.
