Gemini Sun
In Aries the impulse was TO BE; in Taurus the impulse was TO HAVE. Now with the third sign of the zodiac, the first air sign and first dual sign Gemini mediates between our being and our having. It represents our first experience of separation, opposites and duality which takes place before the experience of emotional attachment is realized in Cancer.
Gemini represents the first experience of consciousness. Gemini is always in search of something missing; for a map, a guide or a model to show the way for what they have lost. Gemini is controlled by an unconscious desire to find the lost part of themselves. A frequent problem is that Gemini sees 'the other' as outside of themselves which leads to searching for superficial wholeness through another.
The symbol is the twins and Gemini eventually realizes that the twin they are seeking is themselves. It is in their search for wholeness and finding their lost connection with their divine self that they are led to finding the inner child that they disconnected from earlier in life that leads to freedom.
Gemini's mission is to reveal the relationship between opposing pairs and to facilitate a harmonious relationship between the two. Curious and restless about life Gemini thrives in diversity and searches for ways to transform the dualities of life by seeking to merge, blend and harmonize. The mission is to learn how to connect opposites; to know we are perfect and imperfect at the same time; that there is good and evil; that some things turn out the way we want them to; others don't; regardless, life still goes on.
Gemini deals with the rational mind which deals with information exchange between others and between the environment. They have the ability to be logical and objective. Gemini is forever expanding the intellect by education as well as through informal life experience. Their nourishment is information. They gather information and then move on while observing and analyzing life. Their capacity to remain emotionally detached allows them to use their mind for discovering truth. Gemini's challenge is to use the mind to analyze their own feelings instead of rationalizing them away.
Communication is of utmost importance to Gemini who absolutely must interact with others so that they can process their experiences. They have the capacity to master communication skills because they have the ability to be flexible, to gather information, problem-solve, and go for clear, quick and uncomplicated responses and answers.
Gemini teaches us about external communication with others and internal communication with ourselves. Their main challenge is to stop talking, learn to listen, and actually hear what the other person is saying. Total silence may be impossible for Gemini, but they can learn to listen to themselves. For their own health and sanity they need time to themselves. If denied mental expression they can suffer from nervousness and disrupted sleep patterns.
The less conscious Gemini is the more likely they will diffuse, scatter and waste their energy. All information is interesting even if it is useless or false. They operate without a plan, purpose or worthwhile goals as their idea of relationship is how everything and everyone relates to themselves. They are the ones who incessantly talk with no interchange between themselves and the other person they are talking at. Their idea of duality is to create conflict with others through gossip.
When Gemini's mind seeks purposeful rather than scattered knowledge they are more open to listening to others opinions and sharing knowledge in a give and take fashion. Attention is given to careful, methodical and thorough thinking. They are out in the world seeking and participating in life's activities.
Finally Gemini reaches the point where their life and mind are directed to achieve synthesis and harmonization with themselves, with others and the world. Their actions are directed to serve the highest good of humanity. Harmonious linkages are created between people and groups to bring peace and understanding. Curiosity is used to find out about their own life, who they are, why they are here and what higher purpose they can serve.
Gemini needs variety, novelty, entertainment; while reminding us not to take things so seriously. When boredom sets in it is time to look within instead of outside for meaning. When Gemini realizes that the other they have been searching for all this time is their own inner child they have found their twin. Each twin now co-exists as an equal.
Where Gemini is located in our birth charts is where we need a lot of sub plots. This is where changes, altering and adjusting circumstances will always take in place in our lives. This is where we create challenges to learn our lessons. The secret of navigation through Gemini is to begin the next plot before the last one is figured out - to keep searching, circulating, communicating.
