Aries Sun

 written by: Shirley Eftoda

When the Sun is in Pisces it teaches us that something must die to make room for the new. When the Sun enters Aries we are born again and we get another chance to celebrate a new lease on life.

As the first of the three fire signs Aries is related to the intuition, consciousness, primal energy and spirit. There is an awareness of individuality through its innate sense of inner purpose, self-expression and strong will which eagerly sets out to explore the world. Aries is the birthplace of ideas and energy through which the Divine Will is known - then through intuition it acts as a messenger of the Plan.

The goal of human life is to grow, evolve, and mature into the awakened embodiment of each of the twelve signs. Aries motivating urge is to explore and conquer. The path is to develop a sense of will and to direct it toward purposeful activities. The question is how will this fiery, aggressive energy be used. Will it provoke accidents, arguments or wars or will it step forward as a leader guided by its highest ideals? The answer depends on a conscious awareness whether the person is driven by a hot-headed ego or is guided by intuition and their higher self.

The lessons are about identity - Who am I? As the first sign of the zodiac Aries teaches us we must first find ourselves if we are to successfully live life. Since Aries arrives in the world naive, uninformed and uninitiated the persona must be developed as life is experienced. Since Aries is in the process of becoming it is always attracting the necessary experiences to help develop a sense of self and what is needed to live a productive life.

Aries' two primal impulses are TO BE and TO DO. Aries teaches us that BEING comes first; DOING happens from our BEINGNESS. A problem in our modern day society is that we have forgotten to begin with BEING. We use all our Aries energy TO DO. A further problem is that when our DOING is driven by our mental manipulations we wear ourselves out trying to make things happen. We tend to mentally and physically exhaust ourselves by using stimulants, bogus affirmations, and shame to get ourselves to take action - all in the guise of fabricating energy to be more productive.

The Arian energy in all of us can create stress and suffering because we live in a DO and a WANT world. Our focus on achieving and doing more and more creates stress as we identify with our accomplishments. Aries lives in the centre of life and can teach us how to untangle ourselves from the rat race; not escape it and not be a victim of it either. Arian primal energy shows us that the necessary energy is available if we follow our natural instincts and intuition. When we eliminate our mental trips of "could, would, should," the more energy we have to give to enjoying ourselves and our lives. Our instinctual energy is freed up and we can vibrantly participate in life while never losing our inner drive.

Some Aries create conflicts where none exist and act in a very selfish or anti-social manner. Their self assertion is often negative and destructive. They try to control and force their will on others so that their own vulnerability will not be discovered. Control is through passive-aggressive behavior or indirect manipulation of situations with the attempt to attack first because they are afraid of being attacked. Unconscious of the impact that they have on their surroundings the 'me first' attitude is undirected and subjective. The identity becomes "I am my urges".

After struggling to exhaustion they eventually are confronted with enough life experiences that shake up their ego. (When natural instincts of anger and frustration are repressed they often lead to psychosomatic illnesses such as migraine headaches. Chronic ill health may cause withdrawal from life). The result is that through the expansion of their consciousness and a deeper exploration of who they really are and why they are here they come to know their physical limits and are less prone to extremes or obsession with immediate gratification.

Actions are more consciously directed and focused. Now less likely to provoke fights and incidents they use their energy to fight for causes that support not only their own well being but also the well being of others. Anger and rage become controllable and are directed towards a conscious and constructive purpose. Now a plan of action is created. Aries now becomes an instrument to achieve harmony though conflict.

Eventually Aries becomes a divine intermediary. Through actions and communications they inspire others, instill courage and makes things happen. They know they are consciously responsible for their own actions and the right use of their will. Now able to align their will with Divine Will they use their power to transform lower energies into higher expression. Spiritual awareness permeates their communications and brings out this awareness in others. They embody the 'fire' of the Divine.
